Temporary Protected Status to End for Nicaragua

On Monday, November 6, Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke announced her decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Nicaragua.

The termination date for the designation has been set for January 5, 2019. The Administration decided to terminate Nicaragua’s TPS after no request from the Nicaraguan government was made to extend the designation, along with a review of the original 1999 designation conditions. The Administration based its decision on its finding that Nicaragua could adequately handle the return of its nationals.

However, the Administration delayed a decision regarding the current January 5, 2018, expiration date for TPS for Honduras for six months until July 5, 2018.
